Biography
The group was formed in Guadalajara in 2001, the year it joined the country's independent music scene,.{{Cite web |title=Descartes a Kant: Polyamorous Theory |url=https://www.premierguitar.com/articles/25994-descartes-a-kant-polyamorous-theory |access-date=13 March 2018 |language=en}}.{{Cite web |last=Franco |first=Daniel |date=9 October 2006 |title=Empuja la "movida tapatía" |url=http://archivo.eluniversal.com.mx/espectaculos/72224.html |access-date=13 March 2018 |website=eluniversal.com.mx |language=es}}. They adopted their name by combining two admired philosophers: René Descartes and Immanuel Kant, whose opposite philosophical works marked the modern era. After developing a few years in the local scene and after several formation changes, Descartes a Kant released a first album, Paper Dolls, in 2007 at the Inolerance label.
Their musical style is qualified as "bipolar-schizoid" alternating soft and melodic tones with noise and stridence.{{Cite web |title=Entrevista: Descartes a Kant, bipolaridad esquizoide en la GIFF 2016 |url=https://ibero909.fm/blog/entrevista-descartes-a-kant-bipolaridad-esquizoide-en-la-giff-2016 |access-date=13 March 2018 |website=Ibero 90.9 FM |date=3 August 2016 |language=es}}. The group includes elements of noise, rock 'n' roll, surf music, electronic music, bossa nova and jazz. Their concerts are generally theatrical, their members generally wearing specific outfits.
Il Visore Lunatique, their second album, was released in 2012. Some songs from the album include Suckerphilia, Buy All My Dreams and You May Kiss The Bride. In the third album, Victims of Love Propaganda, recording and production were carried out by Steve Albini, who worked on albums for Nirvana and Pixies.{{Cite web |title=Descartes a Kant Releasing New Album "Victims Of Love Propaganda" |url=http://cleorecs.com/home/descartes-a-kant-releasing-new-album-victims-of-love-propaganda/ |website=Cleopatra Records |language=en}}
