Desechable is the second studio album by Chilean and Mexican singer Mon Laferte, released on 23 June 2011.{{Citation|last=Deezer|title=Mon Laferte: Desechable|url=https://www.deezer.com/us/album/7038905|language=en-US|access-date=2019-12-22}} It was released eight years after her debut album La Chica de Rojo in 2003. The album was published independently by Laferte after two years of recording in Mexico.

Background

After the release of her first album, La Chica de Rojo, under the name Monserrat Bustamante, she moved in 2007 to Mexico City where she began singing in nightclubs and recording cover songs.{{Cite web|url=https://www.indierocks.mx/musica/entrevistas/entrevista-con-mon-laferte/|title=Entrevista con Mon Laferte|website=Indie Rocks!|language=es-ES|access-date=26 January 2019}} In 2009, she released a single titled "Lo Mismo Que Yo", which was to be the lead single from an upcoming album.{{Cite web|url=https://www.emol.com/noticias/magazine/2009/05/18/358686/con-look-lily-allen-ex-estrella-de-rojo-adelanta-nuevo-disco.html|title=Con look Lily Allen, ex estrella de "Rojo" adelanta nuevo disco {{!}} Emol.com|last=S.A.P|first=El Mercurio|date=18 May 2009|website=Emol|language=es|access-date=26 January 2019}} The same year, Laferte was diagnosed with thyroid cancer, effectively putting a halt to her album.{{cite web|url=http://www.lasegunda.com/Noticias/CulturaEspectaculos/2013/01/812286/el-radical-giro-de-mon-laferte-ya-no-me-reconocen|title=El radical giro de Mon Laferte: "Ya no me reconocen"|last=S.A.P.|first=El Mercurio|website=lasegunda.com|publisher=La Segunda|access-date=1 July 2016}}

Around the time of her battle with cancer, she abandoned her original stage name and introduced the world to Mon Laferte, expressing that the name represented a new beginning for her: "My name change is not for wanting to be another person, it is that the circumstances of life have led me to change a lot and I felt that I had to start from scratch".{{Cite web|url=http://www.latundra.com/monlaferte/|title=La Tundra Revista {{!}} Mon Laferte en concierto en Londres|language=es-ES|access-date=2019-01-26}} In late 2010, two years later, she returned with the recording of her second album, Desechable, which was released on 23 June 2011 digitally. The album was recorded in Testa Estudio, León, Guanajuato with producer César Ceja.{{Cite web|url=https://www.am.com.mx/espectaculos/Leon-la-cuna-musical-de-Mon-Laferte-20170826-0147.html|title=León, la cuna musical de Mon Laferte|date=26 August 2017|website=Periódico AM|language=es-ES|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20191223001614/https://www.am.com.mx/espectaculos/Leon-la-cuna-musical-de-Mon-Laferte-20170826-0147.html|archive-date=23 December 2019|access-date=2019-12-23}}{{Cite web|url=http://www.musicapopular.cl/artista/mon-laferte/|title=Mon Laferte|website=Mon Laferte {{!}} MusicaPopular.cl|language=es|access-date=2019-12-23}}
