The Dibang Dam is a planned concrete gravity dam, proposed to be located in the Lower Dibang Valley District in Arunachal Pradesh, India. If constructed,[http://www.processregister.com/Dibang_Power/Project/pid22003.htm Dibang Power Project]. ProcessRegister.com. Retrieved 16 June 2013. it will be India's largest dam and the world's tallest concrete gravity dam, standing {{convert|288|m|ft}} tall. The Dibang Dam is expected to provide up to 3,000 megawatts of hydroelectric power and will also assist with flood control in the Dibang Valley.[http://www.livemint.com/2008/01/31235804/Dibang-hydroelectric-project-y.html "Dibang Hydroelectric project yet to get nod"]. History

The foundation stone for the dam was laid on 31 January 2008 by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. Construction on the project, however, has yet to begin. In 2013, the Ministry of Environment and Forests rejected the project's application but NHPC Limited resubmitted it in 2014. The dam has also been under intense local and international opposition to its tentative negative environmental impacts and forced relocations of Idu Mishmi tribal peoples.{{cite web | url=http://www.telegraphindia.com/1140421/jsp/northeast/story_18261953.jsp#.U3lUhvldWSo | archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20140519055442/http://www.telegraphindia.com/1140421/jsp/northeast/story_18261953.jsp#.U3lUhvldWSo | url-status=dead | archive-date=19 May 2014 | title=Fresh shot at Dibang dam | publisher=The Telegraph - India | date=21 April 2014 | accessdate=18 May 2014}}
