{{nihongo foot|Digimon Story: Time Stranger|デジモンストーリー タイムストレンジャー|Dejimon Sutōrī: Taimu Sutorenjā|lead=yes|group=lower-alpha}} is an upcoming 2025 role-playing video game developed by Media.Vision and published by Bandai Namco Entertainment. It will be the seventh game in the Story sub-series of Digimon games, coming eight years after Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth – Hacker's Memory. The game will be the first entry in the series on Xbox, as well as the first to have an official English dub. It is scheduled to release worldwide for PlayStation 5, Windows, and Xbox Series X/S on October 3, 2025 (October 2 for consoles in Japan).

Development

This game was first announced on December 8, 2017, just before the release of Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth - Hacker's Memory. Producer Kazumasa Habu stated that making a new game for PlayStation 4 from scratch (with the other recent games being handheld releases) would take around four years of development time, so they decided to develop Hacker's Memory and the new Digimon Story game simultaneously, and release Hacker's Memory first. This way, fans wouldn't be waiting a long time for the next game.{{Cite web |date=2017-12-08 |title=New Digimon Story game in development separate from Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Hacker's Memory |url=https://www.gematsu.com/2017/12/new-digimon-story-game-development-separate-digimon-story-cyber-sleuth-hackers-memory |access-date=2025-03-16 |website=Gematsu |language=en-US}}

A year later, on September 12, 2018, Bandai reconfirmed the game's development and stated that – alongside Hacker's Memory having been made for the same reason – they had decided to create Digimon Survive to give the Digimon Story team more time and to once again make sure there wasn't a big gap in between the releases of Digimon video games.{{Cite web |date=2018-09-12 |title=Digimon producer reconfirms new Digimon Story game in development |url=https://www.gematsu.com/2018/09/digimon-producer-reconfirms-new-digimon-story-game-in-development |access-date=2025-03-16 |website=Gematsu |language=en-US}}

In 2019, the two Cyber Sleuth games were ported to new systems, for the same reasons as the prior two games' announcements.{{Cite web |date=2019-07-06 |title=Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth Complete Edition coming to Switch, PC on October 18 [Update] |url=https://www.gematsu.com/2019/07/digimon-story-cyber-sleuth-complete-edition-coming-to-switch-pc-on-october-18 |access-date=2025-03-16 |website=Gematsu |language=en-US}} Digimon Survive found itself delayed for over three years, originally intending to release in 2019, only to be delayed to 2022.

On February 27, 2022, Bandai once again confirmed that the Digimon Story game was being worked on and revealed that the game would take place in the Digital World (unlike the two Cyber Sleuth games) and that the game would feature the Olympos XII as the main characters.{{Cite web |date=2022-02-27 |title=Next Digimon Story game still in development, set in the Digital World and themed around the Olympos XII |url=https://www.gematsu.com/2022/02/next-digimon-story-game-still-in-development-set-in-the-digital-world-and-themed-around-the-olympos-xii |access-date=2025-03-16 |website=Gematsu |language=en-US}}

On February 20, 2024, Habu revealed he was no longer working on Digimon games as of April, 2023. He stated the game was still being worked on, but that someone else had taken over his role.{{Cite web |last=@habumon |date=2024-02-20 |title=【ご報告】社内の人事異動に伴い、デジモンゲームのプロデュース担当から外れることとなりました。実際には昨年の4月の時点で担当からは外れており、引き継ぎを粛々と行っておりました。新作のデジモンストーリーは信頼するディレクターの下、チームが開発を継続していますので、ご安心ください。 |url=https://twitter.com/habumon/status/1759843635770904977 |website=X (formerly Twitter)}}

On February 12, 2025, eight years after first being announced, its first trailer was shown in a State of Play stream — with the platform now being the PlayStation 5.{{Cite AV media |url=https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vQtPbTOhLEc |title=State of Play {{!}} February 12, 2025 [English] |date=2025-02-12 |last=PlayStation |access-date=2025-03-16 |via=YouTube}} A few hours earlier, the game was leaked by GameStop — who stated the game would also be coming to Xbox Series X/S, making it the first Digimon Story game on an Xbox.{{Cite web |last=Cripe |first=Michael |date=2025-02-12 |title=Digimon Story Time Stranger Revealed at PlayStation State of Play Showcase Following Leaks |url=https://www.ign.com/articles/digimon-story-time-stranger-revealed-at-playstation-state-of-play-showcase-following-leaks |access-date=2025-03-16 |website=IGN |language=en}} The game was then listed for Steam a few hours later.{{Cite web |title=Digimon Story Time Stranger on Steam |url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/1984270/Digimon_Story_Time_Stranger/ |access-date=2025-03-16 |website=store.steampowered.com |language=en}}
