History
Rolling Stone Country writer Joseph Hudak described the song as featuring "Opening with some clean slide guitar, the mid-tempo ballad calls to mind Bruce Springsteen's wall-of-sound style and progression, with Combs proclaiming his own blue-collar bona fides in the lyrics."{{cite magazine | url=https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-country/luke-combs-eric-churchs-song-does-to-me-909826/ | title=Luke Combs Sings With His Hero Eric Church on New Collab 'Does to Me' | magazine=Rolling Stone | date=November 8, 2019 | accessdate=February 25, 2020 | author=Joseph Hudak}} Billy Dukes of Taste of Country wrote that "While not his tightest lyric, this song...hits the heart as quick as any of his previous seven No. 1 hits...Most satisfying might be the Gary Morse steel guitar that saturates the mix."{{cite web | url=https://tasteofcountry.com/luke-combs-eric-church-does-to-me/ | title=Luke Combs channels Eric Church for 'Does to Me' [Listen] | publisher=Taste of Country | date=January 28, 2020 | accessdate=February 25, 2020 | author=Billy Dukes}} Combs wrote the song with Ray Fulcher and Tyler Reeve, and chose to include Church as a duet partner because he thought it fit Church's artistic style along with his own.{{cite web | url=https://www.nashcountrydaily.com/2020/01/27/listen-to-luke-combs-new-single-does-to-me-featuring-eric-church/ | title=Listen to Luke Combs' New Single, "Does to Me," Featuring Eric Church | work=Nash Country Daily | date=January 27, 2020 | accessdate=February 25, 2020 | author=Jim Casey}}
