Although Greif was noted as a back-up goalkeeper in the Slovak senior team,{{Cite news|title=Tréner Hapal vítal hráčov na zraze pred úvodnými zápasmi kvalifikácie o ME 2020|url=https://www.webnoviny.sk/trener-hapal-vital-hracov-na-zraze-pred-uvodnymi-zapasmi-kvalifikacie-o-me-2020/|website=Web Noviny|date=17 March 2019|access-date=29 May 2019|language=sk|archive-date=29 May 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190529223432/https://www.webnoviny.sk/trener-hapal-vital-hracov-na-zraze-pred-uvodnymi-zapasmi-kvalifikacie-o-me-2020/|url-status=live}} he was first called up to the national team on 25 May 2019 by Pavel Hapal. The nomination was for a double fixture in June – a home friendly match against Jordan, to which, unusually, 29 players were called-up and a UEFA Euro 2020 qualifying fixture against Azerbaijan, played away on 11 June 2019. The squad was reduced to 23 players for the latter fixture.{{Cite web|title=SR A – V Hapalovej nominácii 29 hráčov, po Jordánsku sa zúži na 23 {{!}} Slovenský futbalový zväz|url=https://www.futbalsfz.sk/sr-a-v-hapalovej-nominacii-29-hracov-po-jordansku-sa-zuzi-na-23|publisher=Slovak Football Association|date=28 May 2019|access-date=29 May 2019|language=sk|archive-date=29 May 2019|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20190529220625/https://www.futbalsfz.sk/sr-a-v-hapalovej-nominacii-29-hracov-po-jordansku-sa-zuzi-na-23|url-status=live}}
