History
Located 79 km southeast of country's capital Hobart, Doo Town was established in the 1830s as an unnamed timber station which eventually developed into a shack community. In 1935 a Hobart architect, Eric Round, placed the name plate Doo I 99 on his weekend shack. A neighbour, Charles Gibson, responded with a plate reading Doo Me, then Bill Eldrige with Doo Us. Eric Round's shack was later renamed Xanadu or Xanadoo.[http://travel.ca.msn.com/international/photogallery.aspx?cp-documentid=25587761&page=5 Doo Town] {{Webarchive|url=https://web.archive.org/web/20120326122103/http://travel.ca.msn.com/international/photogallery.aspx?cp-documentid=25587761&page=5 |date=26 March 2012 }} MSN Travel[http://www.discovertasmania.com/destinations/hobart_and_surrounds/doo_town Doo Town] {{webarchive |url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110803123724/http://www.discovertasmania.com/destinations/hobart_and_surrounds/doo_town |date=August 3, 2011 }} Discover Australia
The trend caught on and most of the homes have a plate that includes the name 'Doo'. Some shacks play on the theme, with 'do' and even 'du' variations.{{Cite web|url=https://offthetrack.blog/tag/doo-town/|title=Doo Town {{!}} Off the Track 4×4|website=offthetrack.blog|access-date=2019-07-08}}
