At the time of its closure, Doonies Farm operated as a family-run business; however, the farm was owned and operated by Aberdeen City Council for roughly 20 years. Doonies Farm finally closed on 21 August 2023 as a result of the nearby ETZ (Energy Transition Zone) being built by the council.{{Cite web |last=Taylor |first=Shanay |date=2023-07-13 |title='Breaks my heart': P&J readers react to Doonies Farm closure |url=https://www.pressandjournal.co.uk/fp/business/local/5942926/breaks-my-heart-pj-readers-react-to-doonies-farm-closure/ |access-date=2023-10-13 |website=Press and Journal |language=en-GB}}
