Metaxa won the junior championships of France in 1927 and 1928. She was a member of Racing Club de France.
In 1932, she won Wimbledon title in the women's doubles with Belgian Josane Sigart against Elizabeth Ryan and Helen Jacobs, one year after a finals defeat with the same partner.{{cite web|title=Wimbledon players archive – Doris Howard (Metaxa)|url=http://www.wimbledon.com/en_GB/scores/draws/archive/players/f129fd30-43d8-4e4b-b404-c81496973318/index.html|publisher=AELTC}}
