Dortmund style beers
Fred Eckhardt in A Treatise on Lager Beers, published in 1969, set out the view that Dortmunder is a distinctive enough pale lager to be classed as a separate beer style.Fred Eckhardt, A Treatise on Lager Beers: How to Make Good Beer at Home, 1969, {{ISBN|0-9606302-3-6}}
Michael Jackson and Roger Protz continued the trend, although with a certain faint heart, uneasy at pinning down exactly the distinctive nature of the beer.{{cite web|url=http://www.beerhunter.com/styles/export.html|title=Michael Jackson's Beer Hunter – Beer Styles: Export|publisher=www.beerhunter.com|access-date=2008-05-06|author=Michael Jackson}}{{cite web|url=http://www.beer-pages.com/protz/features/dortmund.htm|title=beer-pages.com – all you need to know about beer|publisher=www.beer-pages.com|access-date=2008-05-06|author=Roger Protz|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080421161309/http://www.beer-pages.com/protz/features/dortmund.htm|archive-date=2008-04-21|url-status=dead}}
