Dracula is a color scheme for a large collection of desktop apps and website, with a focus on code editors and terminal emulators, created by Zeno Rocha. The scheme is available in dark mode and light mode (only with Dracula PRO). Packages that implement the color scheme have been published for many major applications, such as Visual Studio Code (2.9M installs),{{Cite web|title=Dracula Official - Visual Studio Marketplace|url=https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=dracula-theme.theme-dracula|url-status=live|access-date=2021-03-19|website=marketplace.visualstudio.com|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180503094928/https://marketplace.visualstudio.com/items?itemName=dracula-theme.theme-dracula |archive-date=2018-05-03 }} Sublime Text (160K installs),{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Dracula Color Scheme - Sublime Package Control|url=https://packagecontrol.io/packages/Dracula%20Color%20Scheme|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20150423130027/https://packagecontrol.io/packages/Dracula%20Color%20Scheme |archive-date=2015-04-23 |access-date=2021-03-19|website=packagecontrol.io}} Atom (250K installs),{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Dracula Syntax - Atom Packages|url=https://atom.io/packages/dracula-syntax|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180127070932/https://atom.io/packages/dracula-syntax |archive-date=2018-01-27 |access-date=2021-03-19|website=Atom|language=en}} JetBrains IDEs (820K installs),{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Dracula Theme - JetBrains Plugins|url=https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/12275-dracula-theme|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200924043556/https://plugins.jetbrains.com/plugin/12275-dracula-theme |archive-date=2020-09-24 |access-date=2021-03-19|website=JetBrains Plugin Repository|language=en}} and 218 other applications.{{Cite web|last=|first=|date=|title=Dracula Theme|url=https://draculatheme.com/|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20170601142848/https://draculatheme.com/ |archive-date=2017-06-01 |access-date=2021-03-19|website=draculatheme.com|language=en}}

History

Zeno Rocha began working on Dracula in 2013 after having his computer stolen at a hospital in Madrid, Spain.{{Cite web|last=Merino|first=Marcos|date=2021-11-07|title=Efecto mariposa: alguien roba un portátil en Madrid, y Dracula se convierte en el theme más popular del mundo, disponible en 218 apps|url=https://www.genbeta.com/desarrollo/efecto-mariposa-alguien-roba-portatil-madrid-dracula-se-convierte-theme-popular-mundo-disponible-218-apps|access-date=2021-11-08|website=Genbeta|language=es}} Upon installing a new code editor and terminal emulator, he could not find a color scheme that he liked, so he decided to create his own. He always believed in the cost of context switching, therefore his goal was to create a uniform and consistent experience across all his applications.{{Cite web|url=https://changelog.com/podcast/248|title=Open Source Lessons Learned with Zeno Rocha (The Changelog #248)|website=Changelog|last1=Stacoviak|first1=Adam|date=28 April 2017 |language=en|access-date=2020-04-04}} On October 27, 2013, he published the first Dracula theme for ZSH on GitHub.{{Cite web|url=https://github.com/dracula/dracula-theme/commit/7e4d17ade6a54b7b7d8037a0d2160a293f17ef5c|title=Add ZSH theme - dracula/dracula-theme@7e4d17a|last=|first=|date=|website=GitHub|language=en|url-status=live|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20200218215325/https://github.com/dracula/dracula-theme/commit/7e4d17ade6a54b7b7d8037a0d2160a293f17ef5c |archive-date=2020-02-18 |access-date=2020-04-04}}
