Face 2 fAKE is a Japanese music producer unit formed by Achilles Damigos and Oh!Be. Since the mid-1990s, they have been active as prominent songwriters and producers in the mainstream J-Pop scene, contributing numerous chart-topping hits. They also gained recognition as sharp-tongued judges on national audition programs. In the early 2000s, they gradually shifted their focus to soundtrack composition, starting with television drama scoring, and have since established themselves as a leading force in Japanese soundtrack production. Their works include soundtracks for major productions such as Lupin no Musume, Cells at Work!, and Fly Me to the Saitama: From Lake Biwa with Love. Their music combines cinematic orchestration with pop, electronic, and rhythmic elements.
= History =
Face 2 fAKE was formed in 1994 by Achilles Damigos and Oh!Be, becoming Japan's first dedicated music producer unit. They officially began their professional activities in 1995, and achieved their first commercial hits in 1996–1997 through singles for SMAP and Rina Takahashi, establishing themselves as rising figures in the J-Pop industry.{{cite web |last= |first= |title=Face 2 fAKE|アキレス・ダミゴスが語る、日本音楽の「橋渡し」 |url=https://steranet.jp/articles/-/586 |website=ステラnet |publisher=NHKサービスセンター |language=Japanese |date=2023-04-03 |access-date=2025-05-18}}
While already active in record production, they later expanded into soundtrack work, notably composing for the anime Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Children (2000), which marked their early entry into visual media scoring.
Their early success expanded with numerous contributions to major J-Pop acts throughout the late '90s and early 2000s. In 2001, they provided the insert song "Your Eyes Only" (performed by EXILE) for the Fuji TV drama *Dekichatta Kekkon*, which led to EXILE's debut and marked a major commercial breakthrough.
Throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Face 2 fAKE composed music for a wide range of television dramas and films, including *Gallery Fake* (2005), *Lupin's Daughter* (2019, 2020), and its 2021 theatrical film adaptation. In 2022, they were selected to score the NHK television drama *The Great Passage*, based on the award-winning novel, marking another notable project in their soundtrack portfolio.{{cite web |title=NHKドラマ「舟を編む 〜私、辞書つくります〜」音楽をFace 2 fAKEが担当 |url=https://entamerush.jp/522509/ |website=エンタメラッシュ |language=Japanese |date=2022-11-06 |access-date=2025-05-18}}
In 2019, they scored the hit film *Fly Me to the Saitama*, which grossed over 3.7 billion yen (approximately USD 25 million) at the box office and earned them their first Japan Academy Prize for Outstanding Achievement in Music in 2020. In 2023, they composed the score for its sequel, *Fly Me to the Saitama: From Lake Biwa with Love*, and in 2024, they provided the soundtrack for the live-action film adaptation of *Cells at Work!*, produced by Warner Bros. Japan. The film became a commercial success, grossing over 6.3 billion yen (approximately USD 40 million), and earned them the same award again in 2025.{{cite web |title=『第48回日本アカデミー賞』優秀賞発表 『ゴジラ-1.0』『怪物』が最多12部門 |url=https://realsound.jp/movie/2025/01/post-1905400.html |website=Real Sound |publisher=Blueprint |language=Japanese |date=2025-01-15 |access-date=2025-05-18}}{{Cite web
