Biography

Jaka Ivančič established himself as a self-taught photographer and became a recognized professional. In 2015, at the Expo Milano exhibition, he created a series of photographs featuring Istrian–Karst culinary specialties commissioned by Slovenian exhibitors.{{Cite web|url=https://primorske.svet24.si/2015/12/08/raje-v-naravo-po-dober-skljoc-kot-pred-tv|title=Raje v naravo po dober škljoc kot pred TV|website=Primorske Novice}} Prior to that, he extensively photographed for municipalities, hotels, and other institutions, gradually building his reputation through social media.

His career began in the late 1990s when he was known by the nickname Nervus. He was active on IRC and later on the portal obala.net, where he worked as an editor and photographer, organized events, designed websites for musical groups, and even served as manager, vocalist, and trumpeter for the band Pudding Fields. His musical journey led him to Radio Capris, where in 2004 he began hosting the Italian music show Capital, which ran for ten years. Later, he established himself as a producer for the morning program as well as the web and social media manager, photographer, and journalist at the station.

Photography became central to his life when he invested in professional equipment upon founding his company. Initially, he focused on photographing concerts and social events before shifting his attention to culinary and landscape photography. He was particularly drawn to capturing food in coastal restaurants and documenting culinary experiences during his travels abroad on the portal regionalobala.si.

Landscape photography soon emerged as his main field of work. He regularly highlights the beauty of Istria and Slovenia, often comparing them to exotic destinations. He has shared his expertise through photography workshops, emphasizing the importance of attentiveness to one’s surroundings and the search for aesthetic moments in nature. According to him, photographers notice more details and natural beauty than others, enabling them to create unique images.

Ivančič has received several awards for his work. In 2018, National Geographic selected one of his photographs as one of the "Best Landscape Photographs of the Year."{{Cite web|url=https://www.nationalgeographic.com/travel/article/beautiful-landscapes-around-world-photo-of-the-day|title=Travel around the world in 51 captivating images|date=February 26, 2025|website=Travel}} He was ranked among the "TOP 10 Instagram Photographers in Slovenia" and twice among the "Oneeyeland WORLD'S TOP 10 Landscape Photographers."{{Cite web|url=https://oneeyeland.com/world-top10-landscape-photographers-2018|title=World's Top 10 Landscape Photographers 2018|website=One Eyeland}}{{Cite web|url=https://oneeyeland.com/world-top10-landscape-photographers-2019|title=World's Top 10 Landscape Photographers 2019|website=One Eyeland}} In 2019, he received the IPA (International Photo Awards), and in 2022 he won the Landscape category at the Sarajevo Photography Awards.{{Cite web|url=https://www.photoawards.com/winner/?compName=IPA+2019|title=Winners | International Photography Awards|website=www.photoawards.com}}{{Cite web|url=https://sarajevophotofest.com/archive-spf-2022/|title=Archive SPF 2022}}
