Najib Harabi (born 28 June 1953) is a Swiss-Moroccan economist and Professor Emeritus at the University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland (FHNW). He is recognized for his contributions to applied microeconomics, industrial organization, and innovation economics. Harabi has held visiting positions at several academic institutions and has served as a consultant for various international organizations.

Early life and education

Harabi was born in Fès, Morocco. He earned his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Economics from the University of Zurich. Academic career

Harabi began his academic career at the University of Zurich, serving as a research assistant and later as Deputy Director of the Institute of Economics. He also lectured at ETH Zurich and the University of St. Gallen. In 1997, he was appointed Professor of Economics at FHNW's School of Business. Consultancy and public engagement

Harabi has consulted for several international organizations, including the OECD, World Bank, United Nations Development Program (UNDP), United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). He has also advised governmental bodies such as the Swiss Agency for Development and Cooperation, the State Secretariat for Education and Research in Switzerland, and the Moroccan government.

He has been actively involved with the Economic Research Forum (ERF), serving as Chairman of the Advisory Board from 1996 to 2000 and as a member of the Board of Trustees since 2000.
