History

SET was founded in 2016 as an arts project in a former paint factory on Alscot Road. In December 2016 SET achieved chartiable status. In 2017 SET began expanded into a second site Capstan House and opened a community pub and music venue in the closed pub, The Greenwich Pensioner.{{Cite web|url=https://setspace.uk/centre/the-greenwich-pensioner/|title=SET - The Greenwich Pensioner|website=setspace.uk}} In 2018 the organisation opened a music venue in Dalston, SET Dalston where musicians and bands including Mica Levi, Coby Sey, Bas Jan and Ben Vince all played. SET Dalston closed in 2020 during the coronavirus pandemic.

In 2021, SET opened a 140,000 sq ft meanwhile use project in Riverside House in Woolwich, SET Woolwich, offering studios and facilities to over 600 artists and running an arts programme in ancillary project spaces, including The Vault.{{Cite web |title=SET Woolwich |url=https://creativelandtrust.org/set-woolwich/ |website=The Creative Land Trust|date=10 October 2022 }} In 2022, SET also opened significant sites in Ealing and Kensington. Since 2022, SET has run SET Social, an affordable members club, social centre and arts venue in Peckham.

Associate Membership Structure

SET follows an Associate Membership-based structure, in which artists who take on studios become Associate Members of the organisation.
