Sumner Normal School (1890{{cn}}-1954) was established in St. Louis, Missouri to train black teachers. In 1929, its name was changed to Stowe Teachers College (Harriet Beecher Stowe Teachers College).

According to a campus history page posted for Harris-Stowe State College, its name was changed in 1929 to Stowe Teachers College, after author Harriet Beecher Stowe whose novel Uncle Tom's Cabin promoted the abolitionist cause in the antebellum United States. The school closed in 1954 in the wake of Brown v.
