Tiny Award is a software platform for issuing micro-credentials based on informal online learning. It was developed by the Canadian company Agile.Net Inc., makers of Thinking Cap LMS.

Overview

Tiny Award is a browser-based tool that allows learners to earn digital badges for completing informal learning activities—such as watching videos, reading articles, completing micro-tasks, or contributing to discussions. Unlike traditional LMS-based credentialing systems, Tiny Award works across the open web.

The platform functions through a browser extension that tracks user interactions with designated content. Once learners meet predefined mastery criteria—like viewing a full video, passing a quiz, or uploading evidence—they are issued a digital badge. Each badge includes metadata and can be stored, downloaded, or shared through a personal portfolio.

Tiny Award integrates with systems like Thinking Cap LMS, and supports custom badge definitions using open JSON templates.

Features

  • Micro-credentialing via browser extension
  • Badges tied to user actions (watch, read, submit, pass)
  • Customizable mastery criteria using JSON schema
  • Public and private portfolios for badge storage
  • Option to add endorsements and evidence to badges
  • AI-assisted badge and assessment generation
  • Integration with LMS platforms via API
  • IMS Global / 1EdTech certified{{cite web |title=Tiny Award Certification Listing |url=https://site.imsglobal.org/certifications/tiny-award |website=1EdTech (formerly IMS Global Learning Consortium) |access-date=24 March 2025}}
