Background
Yvie Oddly started working on the album following her appearance on the eleventh season of RuPaul's Drag Race. She has said, "My inspiration for Drag Trap comes from all sorts of places. When Season 11 aired and my life changed drastically I began writing raps to help me navigate my emotions. So the songs range from the pressures of fame, to my health, sex, and being a queer Black American ... and just everything I needed to get off my chest."{{Cite magazine|title=First Out: New Music From Julien Baker, Carlie Hanson, Slayyyter and More|url=https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/pride/9471753/julien-baker-carlie-hanson-new-music-first-out/|access-date=2020-10-29|magazine=Billboard|date=23 October 2020|language=en|archive-date=2020-10-30|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20201030124937/https://www.billboard.com/articles/news/pride/9471753/julien-baker-carlie-hanson-new-music-first-out/|url-status=live}}
