Drieborg ({{IPA|nl|ˈdribɔr(ə)x|lang}}; also Stocksterhorn; {{langx|gos|Drijbörg}} {{IPA|gos|ˈdrɛːɪ̯bœːχ|}}) is a dike village in the Dutch province of Groningen. It is a part of the municipality of Oldambt.
History
The village started along a dike on the Dollart as Stocksterhorn.{{cite web|url=https://www.plaatsengids.nl/drieborg |title=Drieborg |website=Plaatsengids |access-date=2 March 2022 |language=nl}} In 1656, the dike was extended to Nieuweschans. Due to the proximity to the border, a redoubt was constructed in Stocksterhorn. In 1673, the Bishop of Münster conquered the redoubt.{{cite book|url=https://www.delpher.nl/nl/boeken/view?identifier=MMKB05:000037089:00171&query=Stocksterhorn&coll=boeken&rowid=2 |title=De verdediging van Friesland in 1672-1673 |year=1931 |page=163 |author=W.E. van Dam van Isselt |publisher=Nijhoff |location=The Hague |language=nl}} On 26 August 1818, the village was first referred to as Drieborg in the Provincial Council of Groningen.{{cite web|url=https://www.gemeente-oldambt.nl/sites/default/files/Dorpsvisie%20Drieborg%202018.pdf |title=Dorpsvisie Drieborg |website=Municipality of Oldambt |language=nl |access-date=2 March 2022}}{{rp|1}} The origin of the name is unclear. The most likely explanation is "three boroughs" (fortified settlements), which however cannot be correct.{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/drieborg |title=Drieborg - (geografische naam) |website=Etylomogie Bank |access-date=2 March 2022 |language=nl}} The village used to be a part of the municipality of Beerta.

Drieborg was mainly inhabited by farm workers. During the 20th century, Drieborg was a stronghold of the Communist Party of the Netherlands.{{cite news|url=https://www.delpher.nl/nl/kranten/view?query=Drieborg+cpn&coll=ddd&identifier=ddd:010474376:mpeg21:a0019&resultsidentifier=ddd:010474376:mpeg21:a0019&rowid=8 |title=Voor het partijcongres van de CPN |website=Het volksdagblad |date=26 March 1938 |language=nl |access-date=2 March 2022 |quote=The village of Drieborg (~500 people) had raised more money for the Communist Party than the city of The Hague (~500,000 people)}}{{cite news|url=https://www.delpher.nl/nl/kranten/view?query=Drieborg+cpn&coll=ddd&identifier=ddd:011018176:mpeg21:a0300&resultsidentifier=ddd:011018176:mpeg21:a0300&rowid=1 |title=Beerta |website=Nieuwsblad van het Noorden |date=1 June 1978 |access-date=2 March 2022 |language=nl |quote=The Communist Party had an absolute majority in Beerta, and two of the six communist councillors were from Drieborg}} In 1929, a widespread farmers' strike was organised in Drieborg. After World War II, 60 of the 170 houses in the village were demolished.
In 1903, a church was built in Drieborg, but was demolished in 1928. Drieborg still has a school.{{rp|4}} The population of the village is steadily decreasing, but the average income is increasing, although still near the poverty line.{{cite web|url=https://allecijfers.nl/buurt/drieborg-centrum-oldambt/ |title=Drieborg Centrum Oldambt |website=Alle Cijfers |access-date=2 March 2022 |language=nl}}
In 1990, the municipality was merged into Reiderland which in turn was merged into Oldambt in 2010.
