The "Duck Island Murders"

{{main|Clarence Hill (serial killer)}}

Duck Island was frequented as a lovers' lane during the 1930s due to its remoteness and nearness to Trenton. Between 1938 and 1942, couples were robbed and murdered on the island, resulting in six deaths. Clarence Hill, motivated by sexual and voyeuristic urges, was arrested for the murders and sentenced to life in prison.{{Cite book |last=Tomlinson |first=Gerald |title=Murdered in Jersey |publisher=Rutgers University |year=1994 |url=https://archive.org/details/murderedinjersey00toml |url-access=registration |pages=[https://archive.org/details/murderedinjersey00toml/page/60 60]–62}}{{Cite news |agency=Associated Press |title=Soldier Is Held As Jersey Killer. Fort Dix Private in Jail to Await Trial for Murder in Duck Island Cases |quote=Private Clarence Hill, 33 years old, Hamilton Township Negro soldier, was arraigned today in Hamilton Township Police Court on six charges of murder in connection with the six Duck Island 'lover's lane' slayings that occurred in 1938, 1939 and 1940.... |newspaper=The New York Times |date=February 8, 1944 }}

Incinerator

In 1996, there were plans to build a $260 million trash incinerator on Duck Island, but the proposal was defeated by the Mercer County Board of Chosen Freeholders.{{cite news |title=Board Defeats Incinerator |url=https://www.nytimes.com/1996/11/08/nyregion/board-defeats-incinerator.html |quote=The incinerator, planned for Hamilton Township, had been challenged in court by Princeton township and Princeton borough because neither wanted to send waste to the incinerator or pay for its construction. |newspaper=The New York Times |date=November 8, 1996 |access-date=2015-03-18 }}
