Its native range is Australia.

Its genus name of Duperreya is in honour of Louis Isidore Duperrey (1786–1865), French explorer,{{cite book | last=Quattrocchi | first=Umberto | title=CRC World Dictionary of Plant Names, Volume II, D–L | publisher=CRC Press | location=Boca Raton, Florida | year=2000 | isbn=978-0-8493-2676-9}} and it was published in Voy. Uranie Vol.452 in 1829.
