East Iberville Elementary and High School is a PK-12 combined elementary through high school in St. Gabriel, Louisiana. It is a part of the Iberville Parish School Board.

{{As of|2013}} it, along with one other school, Mathematics, Science, and Arts Academy - East (MSA East), also in St. Gabriel, serves the portion of Iberville Parish on the east bank of the Mississippi River, which has fewer residents compared to the west bank.{{cite web|author=Jones, Terry L.|url=http://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/communities/westside/article_3bb0c30e-fea7-593a-8bbc-8da283154e0c.html|title=Officials want east Iberville to split from parish school system|publisher=The Advocate|date=2013-03-26|accessdate=2016-12-04}}

History

It was previously known as Sunshine High School.{{cite web|url=https://www.postsouth.com/article/20140619/News/140619495|title=Sunshine High Class of 1964 celebrates 50th Year Class Reunion|work=Plaquemine Post South|date=2014-06-23|accessdate=2019-09-08}}

A White American named Maria S. Delouise was the school's principal until March 2010. In 2011, she filed a lawsuit against the school district in federal court, accusing it of removing her from the job so an African American could have it.{{cite web|author=Lodge, Bill|url=https://www.theadvocate.com/baton_rouge/news/article_8ab7c848-03a7-59f9-a141-52a6487752a6.html|title=Ex-principal’s suit claims racism led to demotion |work=The Advocate|date=2011-08-26|accessdate=2019-09-08}}

In a five-year period ending in 2013, around 56% of the students at East Iberville and MSA East performed at or above grade level, and the Louisiana State Department of Education consistently gave both schools "C" ratings. For these reasons, St. Gabriel city officials that year suggested seceding from Iberville schools.

Enrollment

{{As of|2013}} this school and MSA East together had over 60 employees and about 600 students.

Athletics

East Iberville High athletics competes in the LHSAA.
