Description
Eddie is a typical boy apart from being a werewolf. He is very proud of his father, repeatedly bragging about Herman's abilities. Eddie volunteers Herman for something which is clearly beyond Herman's capabilities, but one Herman nonetheless undertakes for Eddie's sake, in several episodes.Nick at Nite's Classic TV Companion; Tom Hill, editor; © 1996 by Viacom International; p. 372: "EPISODE 34 'Munster the Magnificent'... Eddie, volunteers Herman as a performer for his schools talent night... Herman has no discernible talent... Eddie already has him billed as the world's greatest magician."Nick at Nite's Classic TV Companion; Tom Hill, editor; © 1996 by Viacom International; p. 373: "EPISODE 36 'Hot Rod Herman'... Eddie, who thinks his father is the greatest driver in the world, enters Herman in a drag-strip competition."Nick at Nite's Classic TV Companion; Tom Hill, editor; © 1996 by Viacom International; p. 375: "EPISODE 41 'Bronco Bustin' Munster'... In yet another example of Eddie's exaggerated regard for his father's abilities, the young Munster enters Herman... in the bucking bronco contest at the local rodeo. Lily is unable to talk Herman out of this dangerous enterprise: he's intent on being a hero to his son even though he's scared stiff."
Production
In the unaired pilot episode, the part was played by Nate "Happy" Derman.{{citation needed|date=February 2023}} Butch Patrick played him in the original series.Nick at Nite's Classic TV Companion; Tom Hill, editor; © 1996 by Viacom International; p. 358
When asked how he was selected for role of Eddie, Patrick said: "I had a lot of experience. But maybe it was because my fangs were my own teeth. My teeth were so bad, that even when I closed my mouth they stuck out. I was about a head smaller than the other kids, and they liked that because it played off Herman's height."{{cite web|url=https://news.google.com/newspapers?id=vEUxAAAAIBAJ&sjid=NRIEAAAAIBAJ&pg=6598,6494123|title=Being a little 'Munster' wasn't so horrible|author=Jerry Resler|date=October 28, 1983|work=The Milwaukee Sentinel}}
Eddie was played by Jason Marsden in The Munsters Today. In the first season of that series, Eddie was 10 years old and in the fourth grade. He wore the same outfit that Butch Patrick wore. In seasons two and three, Eddie was depicted as being high-school aged and his wardrobe became increasingly modernized.{{citation needed|date=February 2023}}
