Reimers was born in Bergen, Norway, to Bastiam Reimers (b. 1838) and Maren Johnsdatter (b. 1843). (Birth and marriage records spell his name Egil.) He married Signe de Lange on March 24, 1906 in Bergen.

Reimers was one of the most active architects in the Bergen during the first half of the 20th century. Reimers was a crew member of the Norwegian boat Heira II, which won the gold medal at the 1920 Summer Olympics in Antwerp, Belgium.
