El Manzala ({{Langx|ar|المنزلة}}) is a town and region (markaz) in Egypt. Situated in the Dakahlia Governorate, it lies on the Lake Manzala coast in the northeastern part of the country.

Etymology

The town's name comes from Lake Manzala which in turn derives from {{Langx|ar|نزل|lit=descend, stop, settle down|translit=nazala}}. In Middle Ages it was also known as pi-Manjōili ({{Langx|cop|ⲡⲓⲙⲁⲛϫⲱⲓⲗⲓ|lit=inn, lodging}}), translated into Greek as Xenedokhou ({{Langx|grc|Ξενεδόχου}}), thus making the modern Arabic name a translation of a Coptic one, where phonetic resemblance is only coincidental.{{Cite web |last=Peust |first=Carsten |title=Die Toponyme vorarabischen Ursprungs im modernen Ägypten |url=http://www.peust.de/ortsnamen_original.pdf |page=60}}

Projects

In 2018 money was earmarked by the Egyptian Government for infrastructure projects in El Manzala.{{cite news |title=Egypt to carry out $550mln sanitary project |url=https://www.zawya.com/mena/en/business/story/Egypt_to_carry_out_550mln_sanitary_project-SNG_131053007/ |work=Thomson Reuters Projects MENA |publisher=Mubasher}}
