Career

In Brazil, she formed the first group of researchers in the area of polymers, which gave rise to the Institute of Macromolecules of Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ), later renamed in her honor. Mano taught organic chemistry at the Institute of Chemistry, UFRJ, where she was a full professor. She supervised many master's and doctoral theses. In her classes, Mano was always keen to demonstrate practically the properties of different materials and their characterizations. She received the National Order of Scientific Merit for her contribution to science. She was a full member of the Brazilian Academy of Sciences since 1978.{{cite web |title=pioneiras-view - Portal CNPq |url=http://memoria.cnpq.br/web/guest/pioneiras-view/-/journal_content/56_INSTANCE_a6MO/10157/1144245 |website=memoria.cnpq.br |publisher=Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development |accessdate=11 January 2020}}{{cite web |title=Mulher 500 Anos - Por trás dos panos |url=http://www.mulher500.org.br/acervo/biografia-detalhes.asp?cod=23 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110825165819/http://www.mulher500.org.br/acervo/biografia-detalhes.asp?cod=23 |url-status=dead |archive-date=25 August 2011 |accessdate=11 January 2020 |date=25 August 2011}} In 1994, she became Professor Emeritus.
