Personal life and death

Blangsted was born in Würzburg, Germany, the daughter of Lilly (Oppenheimer), a homemaker, and Siegmund Siegel, a horse trader.{{Cite news|url=https://www.nytimes.com/2020/05/20/arts/else-blangsted-dead.html|title = Else Blangsted, Who Fled the Nazis and Found a Hollywood Ending, Dies at 99|newspaper = The New York Times|date = 20 May 2020|last1 = Sandomir|first1 = Richard}}

Widowed in 1982, Blangsted died of natural causes at age 99 at her Los Angeles home. She was survived by two daughters, two grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. Her elder daughter was born in Switzerland of a teenaged out-of-wedlock relationship. She was told the child had died only to learn in 1984 that the 48-year-old daughter was, in fact, alive, and had been adopted by a wealthy Swiss couple from Lausanne. Shortly after, Else fled Europe for the United States in 1937 to escape the scourge of Nazism.{{cite web | url=https://variety.com/2020/film/news/else-blangsted-dies-dead-holocaust-survivor-film-music-editor-1234598660/ |title=Else Blangsted, Acclaimed Film Music Editor and Holocaust Survivor, Dies at 99|website=variety.com|date=5 May 2020}}{{Cite web|url=https://news.yahoo.com/else-blangsted-holocaust-survivor-film-232433901.html|title=Else Blangsted, Holocaust Survivor and Film Music Editor, Dies at 99|website=news.yahoo.com}}
