History

In 1971, construction began with Tower One. The project was developed by Trammell Crow, David Rockefeller, and John Portman.

In 1989, the last off-complex extension, Embarcadero West, was completed. The two extension buildings are west of Battery.{{cite web | title=Embarcadero Center: History | url=http://www.embarcaderocenter.com/ec/about/history.html | publisher=Boston Properties | year=2004 | accessdate=2010-10-15 | url-status=dead | archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20100928153803/http://www.embarcaderocenter.com/ec/about/history.html | archivedate=2010-09-28 }}

In December 2005, Boston Properties sold the Embarcadero West building to Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association (TIAA-CREF) for more than {{US$|205 million}} (equivalent to ${{Inflation|US|205|2005|r=-1}} million in {{Inflation/year|US}}).{{cite web |url=http://www.bisnow.com/commercial-real-estate/san-francisco/2805-big-downtown-office-building-up-for-grabs/ |title=Big Downtown Office Building Up For Grabs |date=2014-09-12 |publisher=Bisnow |access-date=2014-10-03 }}

In February 2022, the cinema's operator closed its doors permanently.
