He won a silver medal in the 6 metre class event, alongside teammates Enrique Sieburger, Sr., Rufino Rodríguez de la Torre, Rodolfo Rivademar, Julio Sieburger, and Enrique Sieburger, Jr.{{cite web|last = Gjerde|first = Arild|author2=Jeroen Heijmans |author3=Bill Mallon |author4=Hilary Evans |title = Emilio Homps Bio, Stats, and Results|work = Olympics|publisher = Sports Reference.com|date = June 2016|url = https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ho/emilio-homps-1.html|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20200418123220/https://www.sports-reference.com/olympics/athletes/ho/emilio-homps-1.html|url-status = dead|archive-date = 2020-04-18|accessdate = 2017-01-03}} Born in San Pedro, Argentina, he was a member of the Yacht Club Olivos and received his Olympic ship, the Djinn, from the Argentine Navy. As a youth, he also swam, rowed, and played rugby union at the national level. In 2006 he was awarded an honorary diploma from the city of Vicente López for his lifelong successes in sport.
