After playing professionally for Arsenal, she joined Charlton late during the 2001/02 season and was also capable of playing in defensive positions.{{cite news |url=http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/2978483.stm |title=Emma Coss |work=BBC Sport |date=26 April 2003 |access-date=29 October 2022}} During the 2003–04 FA Women's Premier League Cup, she came on as a substitute and with her first touch,{{cite magazine |url=https://www.londonbeesfc.com/wp-content/uploads/2019/11/7.-Charlton-Athletic-2.pdf |page=11 |title=Charlton Athletic Women: Official Matchday Programme 2019/20 |publisher=London Bees F.C. |date=24 November 2019 |access-date=29 October 2022}} scored the only goal to secure victory for Charlton Athletic, the club's first major trophy.{{cite news |url=https://www.newspapers.com/clip/112201346 |title=Coss scores winning goal in cup final |newspaper=The Daily Telegraph |page=43 |date=29 March 2004}}

Prior to pursuing a professional football career, Coss had taken up modelling. During a photo shoot, she turned up with a broken nose from playing football and the agency demanded she quit playing, however she chose to give up modelling due to her love of playing football. In her youth, Coss considered herself to be a tomboy and would play in boy's teams up to her early teens. In 2003, she described her favourite footballer as David Beckham.{{cite news |url=https://www.newsshopper.co.uk/news/355873.i-gave-modelling-career-the-boot/ |title=I gave modelling career the boot |author=Will Scott |work=News Shopper |date=17 September 2002 |access-date=29 October 2022}}
