Background

It was formed from the previously state-owned energy retailer/supplier, Integral Energy,{{cite web|url=http://www.endeavourenergy.com.au/wps/wcm/connect/EE/NSW/NSW+Homepage/aboutUsNav/|title=Endeavour Energy - About us|publisher=Endeavour Energy|access-date=29 July 2012}} when the retail division of the company, along with the Integral Energy brand, was sold by the NSW Government in 2011 to Origin Energy.

In June 2017, an Australian-led consortium of institutional investors acquired 50.4% ownership of the rights to management of Endeavour Energy's network assets under a 99-year lease.

The consortium is led by Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets (MIRA), and includes AMP Capital, British Columbia Investment Management Corporation and Qatar Investment Authority.

The NSW Government retains a 49.6% interest and continues to regulate safety and reliability.{{cite web|url=http://www.endeavourenergy.com.au/wps/portal/ee/!ut/p/a1/lZHJboMwEIZfJTlwBJuw94aqtKjqoiqKGnyJDAzgCGzHmNC-fU2qntp0mcNIM_pm-wcRtEOE0xNrqGaC026OSbjPVkmaXftu8pRka5yub263Yey7m2dsgNwA-IKl-Lf6F0QQKbmWukU5wH6CYmAaLNyK3nhaiFFbeGrFYoIFVTDjkjZQwcAafo5KVqG8cKmfJFVtx1VFbd8tVjat6tIOIjeCxPWCIISPYT-ve4dI04nifHqe8sKLG0QU1KBAOaMy6VZreWVhCzOuFeWgHQA6Dk4perOoHCwshdK0-zxh9t81a8Wg0e5rk5llh-ORpEYYwTW8GuwvyuTmFdFlrT20-adcst_28aGW8ZvXne7rx4d0uXwH3wEoIA!!/dl5/d5/L2dBISEvZ0FBIS9nQSEh/|title=Endeavour Energy - About us|publisher=Endeavour Energy|access-date=30 June 2017}}{{cite web|url=https://www.treasury.nsw.gov.au/projects-initiatives/commercial-transactions/past-projects|title=The Treasury - Past projects|publisher=The Treasury NSW Government|access-date=30 June 2017}}
