History
The label was founded in 1986 by music enthusiast Michael Knuth and composer Bill Laswell. Eventually the two parted ways, with Knuth retaining sole distribution rights.{{cite book |first=Gary |last=Lucas. Rage Records Inc was also a subsidiary with Rosalie Sendelbach, and Melvin Gibbs as partners. However, Rosalie and Melvin parted ways with Enemy due to accounting issues. They continued Rage and released 6 albums and many singles. Melvin Gibbs then joined The Rollins Band and the two parted amicably and Rosalie Sendelbach went on to be the sole owner of Rage Records releasing albums also from her studio in Jamaica of Richie Brown and Tyrant. |url=https://books.google.com/books?id=SbvXAQAAQBAJ&pg=PT69 |title=Touched by Grace: My Time with Jeff Buckley |publisher=Hal Leonard Corporation |date=September 1, 2013 |page=69 |isbn=9781908279460 |accessdate=October 18, 2014}} The label primarily focused on issuing records by artists who were influenced by jazz and experimental music.
