The Circle (Swedish: Cirkeln) is the first book in the Engelsfors trilogy. The novel takes place in a fictional rural town, Engelsfors, in central Sweden, and follows a group of teenage girls with little in common who discover that they are witches. The girls, known as the Chosen Ones, are destined to save the world from an approaching apocalypse caused by an otherworldly evil ("demons").

In addition to the fantasy theme, the novel also uses tropes of horror fiction, psychological realism and the unreliable narrator. The novel has been sold for publication in over twenty different languages, in addition to its native Swedish.{{Cite web|title = Home - World of Engelsfors|url = http://www.worldofengelsfors.com/|website = World of Engelsfors|access-date = 2016-02-11|language = en-US|archive-date = 2017-04-25|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20170425144325/http://www.worldofengelsfors.com/|url-status = dead}} Random House released the English translation in the U.K. on June 7, 2012, and in other English-speaking countries during the summer of 2012.[http://www.randomhouse.ca/books/219039/the-circle-by-sara-b-elfgren-mats-strandberg The Circle] {{Webarchive|url=https://archive.today/20130115220324/http://www.randomhouse.ca/books/219039/the-circle-by-sara-b-elfgren-mats-strandberg |date=2013-01-15 }}, randomhouse.com

''Fire''

{{main article|Fire (Elfgren and Strandberg novel)}}

Fire takes place about 10 weeks after the events of the first novel. It follows the same fantasy like the first and further develops themes of horror fiction, psychological realism and an unreliable narrator(s). The plot also makes analogies to the effects of global warming on Sweden's subarctic climate and the group behaviour dynamics of political, religious and ideological extremist groups.{{Cite news|title = Mats Strandberg och Sara Bergmark Elfgren: "Eld" - DN.SE|url = https://www.dn.se/kultur-noje/bokrecensioner/mats-strandberg-och-sara-bergmark-elfgren-eld/|newspaper = Dagens Nyheter| date=7 May 2012 |access-date = 2016-02-11|language = sv-se}}{{Cite web|title = "Eld" – Sara Bergmark Elfgren och Mats Strandberg|url = http://bokhora.se/2012/eld-sara-bergmark-elfgren-och-mats-strandberg/|website = Bokhora.se|access-date = 2016-02-11|language = sv-SE|archive-date = 2016-03-04|archive-url = https://web.archive.org/web/20160304100545/http://bokhora.se/2012/eld-sara-bergmark-elfgren-och-mats-strandberg/|url-status = dead}}
