Enola earthquake swarm

{{Short description|2001 series of earthquakes in Arkansas, United States}}

The Enola earthquake swarm was a series of earthquakes in 2001 that centered on Central Arkansas. It follows the earthquake swarms of Arkansas in the 1980s, and predates the Guy-Greenbrier earthquake swarm that started in 2010.{{cite web |url=http://www.ceri.memphis.edu/GUY/ |title= CERI – Public Awareness -|website=ceri.memphis.edu |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20110307140049/http://www.ceri.memphis.edu/GUY/ |archive-date=March 7, 2011}} The earthquake sequence started with a 4.4 magnitude main shock and 2,500 earthquakes followed in the next 2 months.{{cite journal |last1=Rabak |first1=Ivan |last2=Langston |first2=Charles |last3=Bodin |first3=Paul |last4=Horton |first4=Steve |last5=Withers |first5=Mitch |last6=Powell |first6=Christine |title=The enola, Arkansas, intraplate swarm of 2001 |journal=Seismological Research Letters |date=1 May 2010 |volume=81 |issue=3 |pages=549–559 |doi=10.1785/gssrl.81.3.549 |bibcode=2010SeiRL..81..549R |url=https://digitalcommons.memphis.edu/facpubs/1500/ |access-date=May 23, 2024|url-access=subscription }} These events resulted in a linear cumulative seismicity rate with a b value of nearly 1.0, which is an unusual result as compared to swarms other places.{{cite journal |last1=Rabak |first1=I. |last2=Bodin |first2=P. |last3=Langston |first3=C. |last4=Horton |first4=S. |last5=Withers |first5=M. |last6=Langston |first6=T. |title=The Enola, Arkansas, Sequence of 2001: a Recurring Earthquake Swarm in "Stable Continental" Crust? |journal=AGU Fall Meeting Abstracts |date=1 December 2002 |volume=2002 |pages=S22D–05 |bibcode=2002AGUFM.S22D..05R |url=https://ui.adsabs.harvard.edu/abs/2002AGUFM.S22D..05R/abstract}} The swarm created damage and in May 2001 the swarm increased activity with the notable 4.4 earthquake.
