Epen ({{IPA|nl|ˈeːpə(n)|lang}}; {{langx|li|Ieëpe}} {{IPA|li|ˈiəpə|}}) is a village in the southern part of the Dutch province of Limburg. It is a part of the municipality of Gulpen-Wittem, and lies about 15 km southwest of Kerkrade. Epen is known for its timber framed houses and is part of the sightseeing tour the Mergellandroute.
The village was first mentioned in 1041 as "in villis ... Apine", and probably means "settlement near a river".{{cite web|url=https://etymologiebank.nl/trefwoord/epen |title=Epen - (geografische naam) |website=Etymologiebank |access-date=24 April 2022 |language=nl}} Epen developed in the Early Middle Ages.{{cite book|url=https://dbnl.org/tekst/sten009monu08_01/sten009monu08_01_0042.php |title=Epen |author=Sabine Broekhoven, & Ronald Stenvert| year=2003 |publisher=Waanders |location=Zwolle |isbn=90 400 9623 6 |access-date=24 April 2022 |language=nl}}
