Erskine Link, once known as Bay Street, is situated in East Perth between Hay Street and Adelaide Terrace.

History

Originally Bay Street followed the same route and ran down to a small bay near The Causeway, at the eastern end of Perth.{{cite web|title=PERTH STREET NAMES. Some Interesting Derivations|url=https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/32997299|publisher=The West Australian|accessdate=22 May 2018|date=1 January 1931}} The section of Bay Street between Hay Street and Waterloo Crescent at the Perth Cemetery would be renamed after Bishop Hale, while the section south of Hay Street would become part of the Metropolitan Transport Trust's Causeway Depot. When the depot was closed in the 2000s the area was subdivided and Erskine Link was created. Like the Mandurah suburb Erskine, it was named after Archibald Erskine of the 63rd Regiment, the original regiment of soldiers who came to the Swan River Colony.{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article641908 |title=CELEBRATION |newspaper=The Perth Gazette and Western Australian Journal |volume=I |issue=34 |location=Western Australia |date=24 August 1833 |accessdate=3 June 2018 |page=134 |via=National Library of Australia}} Erskine was given a grant of land in the Murray district and was appointed Justice of Peace for the region.{{cite web |last1=Sprott |first1=[Squiz] Angus |title=Perth suburb names |url=https://www0.landgate.wa.gov.au/maps-and-imagery/wa-geographic-names/name-history/historical-suburb-names#E |website=www0.landgate.wa.gov.au |accessdate=3 June 2018 |language=en}}{{cite news |url=http://nla.gov.au/nla.news-article3177382 |title=THE GOVERNMENT GAZETTE. |newspaper=The Perth Gazette and Independent Journal of Politics and News |volume=8 |issue=455 |location=Western Australia |date=26 September 1856 |accessdate=3 June 2018 |page=2 |via=National Library of Australia}}
