Composition and lyrics

Produced by Dem Jointz, "ExtraL" highlights both artists' dynamic delivery over a "slick, hip-hop-infused beat" and blends Jennie's signature pop sound with Doechii's hip-hop.{{cite magazine|url=https://variety.com/2025/music/news/jennie-doechii-extral-single-video-1236314680/|title=Jennie Taps Doechii for Red-Hot 'ExtraL' Single and Video|last=Garcia|first=Thania|magazine=Variety|date=February 20, 2025|access-date=February 20, 2025|archive-date=February 21, 2025|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250221152547/https://variety.com/2025/music/news/jennie-doechii-extral-single-video-1236314680/|url-status=live}} The song's lyrics have been described as an anthem for female empowerment. Jennie and Doechii use the song to celebrate their success and rap about trading men and worries for funds and fast cars.{{cite magazine|url=https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/jennie-doechii-extral-music-video-1235274945/|title=Jennie and Doechii Trade Their Worries for Funds and Foreign Cars in 'ExtraL' Video|last=Paul|first=Larisha|magazine=Rolling Stone|date=February 21, 2025|access-date=February 21, 2025|archive-date=February 21, 2025|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250221172000/https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/jennie-doechii-extral-music-video-1235274945/|url-status=live}} The two artists take turns on different verses before uniting on the track’s "confidence-boosting" chorus, in which they chant "Do my ladies run this?"{{cite magazine|url=https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/jennie-doechii-collaboration-extral-stream-1235906889/|title=JENNIE Calls on Doechii for High-Energy 'ExtraL': Stream It Now|last=Aniftos|first=Rania|magazine=Billboard|date=February 21, 2025|access-date=February 21, 2025|archive-date=February 21, 2025|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250221153238/https://www.billboard.com/music/pop/jennie-doechii-collaboration-extral-stream-1235906889/|url-status=live}}{{cite magazine|url=https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/blackpink-rose-jennie-new-solo-single-doechii-reaction-1235907524/|title=ROSÉ Shows Love to BLACKPINK Bandmate JENNIE's New Solo Single 'ExtraL'|last=Dailey|first=Hannah|magazine=Billboard|date=February 21, 2025|access-date=February 21, 2025|archive-date=February 21, 2025|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250221190106/https://www.billboard.com/music/music-news/blackpink-rose-jennie-new-solo-single-doechii-reaction-1235907524/|url-status=live}} Jennie opens with a verse shouting out self-made women with financial independence in the line "This for my girls with no sponsor, they got they own fundin'", which alludes to her founding her own label Odd Atelier.{{cite magazine|url=https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/music/a63856298/jennie-doechii-extra-l-lyrics/|title=Jennie and Doechii's "ExtraL" Lyrics Remind Us That Strong Women Don't Need Permission|last=Olson|first=Samantha|magazine=Cosmopolitan|date=February 21, 2025|access-date=February 21, 2025|archive-date=February 21, 2025|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20250221172007/https://www.cosmopolitan.com/entertainment/music/a63856298/jennie-doechii-extra-l-lyrics/|url-status=live}} Her rap includes the cheeky lyric "You sit too far down on 'em charts to even ask me who’s in charge", referencing her history of topping Billboard charts both with her group Blackpink and as a soloist. She additionally raps about playing by her own rules and not listening to people who aren't making moves for themselves before sliding into a trap-influenced chorus. Following the chorus, stacked gang vocals repeat the question "Do my ladies run this?" as Doechii enters the song singing her own name. She begins her verse rapping "Gimme chi, gimme purr, gimme meow, gimme her, gimme funds / Gimme rights, gimme fight, gimme nerve, gimme cunt, let me serve, rrr", describing femme fatale energy by likening women to felines. She goes on to announce that she doesn't make any decisions with men in mind, saying "I'm not here for pleasin' the men / Not here to reason with them" and if that makes her seem "misbehaved", so be it. Jennie and Doechii then rap together about how far they've come and how people are "still on my old work", locked into their previous personas and music releases despite their growth. They also clarify that they've earned their success through hard work and are reaping the benefits.
