After collecting 36 appearances in the 2014–15 Serie C season, he became the team captain in 2015–16, when he gained promotion to Serie B for the first time in the club's history. He was alleged to have failed a doping test in September 2017, shortly after Benevento's 1–0 Serie A defeat to Torino; with the defender having tested positive for a banned substance. An Anabolic steroid, known as Clostebol was detected in the sample Lucioni provided. Following this, in January 2018 the Benevento captain was suspended by NADO (Italy's National Anti-Doping Organization).{{Cite news|url=https://www.fourfourtwo.com/news/benevento-captain-lucioni-fails-doping-test|title=Benevento captain Lucioni fails doping test|date=2017-09-22|work=FourFourTwo|access-date=2018-01-17|language=en}} Finally, he was disqualified for one year from the sport.{{Cite web |url=https://wtop.com/sports/2018/01/benevento-captain-lucioni-banned-1-year-for-doping/ |title=Benevento captain Lucioni banned 1 year for doping | WTOP |access-date=17 January 2018 |archive-date=17 January 2018 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20180117192515/https://wtop.com/sports/2018/01/benevento-captain-lucioni-banned-1-year-for-doping/ |url-status=dead }}
