Fabrizio Pirovano (1 February 1960 – 12 June 2016) was an Italian professional motorcycle road racer from Biassono.

Motorcycle racing career

When the Superbike World Championship began in {{SBK|1988}}, he was one of its first entrants, finishing as championship runner-up in {{SBK|1988}} and {{SBK|1990}}, and in the top five four other times. He won 10 races and took 37 further podium finishes. He is in the championship's all-time top 10 for starts, points and podiums.{{cite web|url=http://www.worldsbk.com/teams-e-riders/rider?pilota=11|title=Sbk.Com | Rider|publisher=Worldsbk.com|accessdate=2013-09-01|url-status=dead|archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120529090424/http://www.worldsbk.com/teams-e-riders/rider?pilota=11|archivedate=2012-05-29}}{{cite web |url=http://www.mcnews.com.au/motorcycleracing2006/superbike/rnd11/preview_stats.htm |title=World Superbike 2006 - Round Two - Phillip Island |publisher=Mcnews.com.au |accessdate=2013-09-01 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20120205215251/http://www.mcnews.com.au/motorcycleracing2006/superbike/rnd11/preview_stats.htm |archivedate=2012-02-05 }} Curiously he never took a World Superbike pole position. He won the Italian Superbike title four times.{{cite web|url=http://www.sportnetwork.net/main/s180/st45645.htm |title=Motorcycle Racing Online - World and domestic Superbike Champions |publisher=Sportnetwork.net |date=2007-04-11 |accessdate=2013-09-01}}

By the mid-1990s, the World Superbike championship had more international stars (such as Troy Corser and Carl Fogarty) and Pirovano was less competitive. In {{SBK|1995}}, a second-place finish at the season-opener at Hockenheim was his only podium, and he left the championship at the end of the year. He moved to the Open Championship for 1996, winning several races{{cite web|url=http://www.europark.com/ny-gpdat/ny-pw_ss.htm |title=1990-2005 Supersport Winners / World Championship Superbike Series |publisher=Europark.com |date= |accessdate=2013-09-01}} and remained there as it became the Supersport World Championship in {{WorldSS|1997}}. He was champion with five wins in {{WorldSS|1998}}, and finished in the top 10 in the four other seasons he contested. In {{WorldSS|2001}} his best results were a pair of 5th places,{{cite web |url=http://website.lineone.net/~mouser/motorsport/2001/world-supersport600/wss600-2001-results.htm |title=2001 World Supersport 600 - Race Results |publisher=Website.loineone.net |accessdate=26 February 2015 |archive-date=3 March 2016 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160303185646/http://website.lineone.net/~mouser/motorsport/2001/world-supersport600/wss600-2001-results.htm |url-status=dead }} and this proved to be his last full season. He won a one-off race in the Suzuki GSX-R Cup at the Misano Circuit in June 2006. He died after losing a battle against an incurable tumour on 12 June 2016.{{cite web|url=http://www.mcnews.com.au/cancer-claims-fabrizio-pirovano-at-56/|title=Cancer claims Fabrizio Pirovano at 56|date=14 June 2016 |accessdate=24 June 2016 }}
