Fagus × taurica, the Crimean beech, is a deciduous tree in the beech genus Fagus.
Taxonomy
The Balkan beech or Moesian beech (Fagus moesiaca), is considered to be the same species. It has been thought to be a hybrid between F. orientalis and F. sylvatica,{{cite web|url=http://apps.kew.org/wcsp/namedetail.do?name_id=83912|title=World Checklist of Selected Plant Families}} but the relationships between Eurasian beeches are still unclear, and it may show greater affinity with F. orientalis.{{cite journal|author1=Paffetti, D. |author2=Vettori, C. |author3=Caramelli, D. |author4=Vernesi, C. |author5=Lari, M. |author6=Paganelli, A. |author7=Paule, L. |author8=Giannini, R. |year=2007|title=Unexpected presence of Fagus orientalis complex in Italy as inferred from 45,000-year-old DNA pollen samples from Venice lagoon|journal=BMC Evolutionary Biology|volume=7|issue=Suppl 2|pages=1–13|url= |doi=10.1186/1471-2148-7-S2-S6 |pmid=17767734 |pmc=1963477 |doi-access=free }}
