FCI Edgefield is located near the South Carolina-Georgia border, approximately 25 miles north of Augusta, Georgia.{{cite web|title=FCI Edgefield|url=http://www.bop.gov/locations/institutions/edg/index.jsp|publisher=Federal Bureau of Prisons|access-date=26 October 2013}}
Notable incidents
In 2002, an unidentified correction officer working at FCI Edgefield pleaded guilty to Georgia state charges for possession with the intent to distribute marijuana. This resulted in a sentence of three years' incarceration, followed by seven years of supervised release. A joint investigation by the Department of Justice Inspector General's Office and the Richmond County Sheriff's Office revealed that the officer took over $9,000 in bribes in exchange for receiving packages containing marijuana and passing them on to inmates.{{cite web|title=Office of Inspector General: Semiannual Report to Congress|url=https://www.justice.gov/oig/semiannual/0211/inv.htm|publisher=Department of Justice|access-date=26 October 2013|date=April 1 – September 30, 2002}}{{cite web|title=Office of Inspector General: Semiannual Report to Congress|url=https://www.justice.gov/oig/semiannual/1105/bop.htm|publisher=US Department of Justice|access-date=26 October 2013|date=October 1, 2010 – March 31, 2011}}
On May 20, 2010, the US Attorney's Office in Columbia, South Carolina, announced that two former correctional officers at FCI Edgefield, Gregory Conyers and Antonio Heath, had been indicted for accepting bribes from inmate Boyce Tisdale in exchange for smuggling contraband into the facility. Conyers and Heath subsequently pleaded guilty and were sentenced to prison. Tisdale was transferred to the Federal Correctional Complex, Butner, North Carolina, and is scheduled for release in 2023.{{cite web|title=Ex-Guards Accused of Sneaking Contraband into Edgefield Federal Correctional Institution|url=http://www.wltx.com/news/story.aspx?storyid=87722|publisher=WLTX-TV Columbia|access-date=26 October 2013|date=May 20, 2010}}{{cite web|title=Three indicted in smuggling of contraband at FCI-Edgefield|url=http://www.wrdw.com/news/crimeteam12/headlines/94490209.html?site=mobile|publisher=WRDW-TV Augusta|access-date=26 October 2013|date=May 20, 2010|archive-url=https://archive.today/20130818231801/http://www.wrdw.com/news/crimeteam12/headlines/94490209.html?site=mobile|archive-date=18 August 2013|url-status=dead}}{{cite web|title=Three Charged with Bringing Drugs into Edgefield Federal Prison|url=https://www.fbi.gov/columbia/press-releases/2010/co052010a.htm|publisher=Federal Bureau of Investigation|access-date=26 October 2013|date=May 20, 2010}}
