History

The name "Felley" means 'Wood/clearing with ploughed land'.{{cite web|url=http://kepn.nottingham.ac.uk/map/place/Nottinghamshire/Felley|title=Felley Key to English Place-names|publisher=The University of Nottingham|accessdate=10 November 2020}} Throughout its history the hamlet of Felley has been overshadowed by the Augustinian priory, Felley Priory. Therefore, few records of the secular settlement exist. Felley was an extra-parochial area, it became a civil parish in 1858.{{cite web|url=https://visionofbritain.org.uk/unit/10260723|title=Relationships and changes Felley CP/Hmlt/ExP through time|publisher=A Vision of Britain through Time|accessdate=10 November 2020}}
