Fengyun 2-05, also known as Fengyun 2D is a Chinese weather satellite which was launched in 2006.{{cite web|url=https://phys.org/news/2006-12-china-weather-satellite.html|title=China launches second weather satellite|publisher=UPI|date=December 6, 2006|access-date=April 1, 2023}} It was the fourth satellite to be launched of the Fengyun 2 series, and the second operational spacecraft. It is part of the Fengyun programme.

A Long March 3A carrier rocket was used to launch Fengyun 2-05, flying from Launch Area 2 at the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre. The launch took place at 00:53 UTC (08:53 CST) on 8 December 2006,{{cite web|url=http://planet4589.org/space/log/launchlog.txt|title=Launch Log|publisher=Jonathan's Space Page|first=Jonathan|last=McDowell|author-link=Jonathan McDowell|accessdate=13 July 2012}} with the carrier rocket placing the satellite into a geosynchronous transfer orbit. An FG-36 apogee motor was then used to raise the satellite into geosynchronous orbit.{{cite web|url=http://space.skyrocket.de/doc_sdat/fy-2.htm|title=FY 2A, 2B, 2C, 2D, 2E, 2F, 2G, 2H|first=Gunter|last=Krebs|work=Gunter's Space Page|accessdate=16 July 2012}} By 7 February 2007, it was in an orbit with a perigee of {{convert|35787|km}}, and apogee of {{convert|35788|km}}, and 2.4 degrees inclination.{{cite web|url=http://planet4589.org/space/log/satcat.txt|title=Satellite Catalog|publisher=Jonathan's Space Page|first=Jonathan|last=McDowell|accessdate=16 July 2012}} It is positioned at a longitude of 86.5 degrees east.{{cite web|url=http://english.gov.cn/2006-12/08/content_464198.htm |title=China launches 2nd geostationary orbit weather satellite |publisher=Chinese Government |first=Letian |last=Pan |date=8 December 2006 |accessdate=16 July 2012 |url-status=dead |archiveurl=https://web.archive.org/web/20090107122410/http://english.gov.cn/2006-12/08/content_464198.htm |archivedate=7 January 2009 }}
