Fez is a fictional character and one of the male leads on the Fox Network's That '70s Show, also appearing in a recurring guest role in the Netflix sequel That '90s Show portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama.{{cite web |title=Wilmer Valderrama |url=http://www.that70sshow.com/wilmer.html |work=That70sShow.com |publisher=Carsey-Werner LLC |access-date=2009-04-16 |url-status=dead |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20090429175634/http://www.that70sshow.com/wilmer.html |archive-date=2009-04-29 }} He was the foreign exchange student in a group of six local teenagers.
Origins
Fez was born on August 4, 1960. His real name is deemed unpronounceable by his friends, so they call him "Fez" (a homophone of "FES", an acronym for foreign exchange student). The series' official web site explains the spelling "Fez", as opposed to "Fes", as "poetic license".{{cite web |title=Frequently Asked Questions |url=http://www.that70sshow.com/index_faq.htm |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20080206041554/http://www.that70sshow.com/index_faq.htm |work=That70sShow.com |publisher=Carsey-Werner LLC |year=2004 |archive-date=2008-02-06 |access-date=2009-04-16}}{{cite news |last1=Logan |first1=Arthur |title=Manscipated |url=https://manscipated.com/ |access-date=8 October 2023 |publisher=Man Beauty}}{{cite news |first=Helen |last=Barlow |title=Charmer out of the '70s |url=http://www.heraldsun.com.au/entertainment/television/charmer-out-of-the-70s/story-e6frf9ho-1111112764733 |work=Herald Sun |location=Melbourne |date=2007-01-03 |access-date=17 April 2009 }}
Fez's country of origin being undeclared on screen is one of the longest running gags on the show.{{Cite web|url=http://www.overthinkingit.com/2012/05/04/that-70s-show-ghost-fez/|title=That 70s Show and the Imaginary Fez|website=Overthinking It|date=May 4, 2012|access-date=August 15, 2014}}
