- It representatively illustrates a particular point in an educational article about the popular, widely-appreciated comic strip series; its inclusion in the article adds significantly to understanding it because it is a historical sample of art and story attributes which are specifically covered in the critical commentary, namely the first appearance of the cat in the strip.
- The image is used as the primary means of visual identification, and/or confirmation of the reader’s memory of the article topic.
