Executive producer Dennis Bernstein and his team focus on issues and events the mainstream and even some alternative news media usually ignore, such as developments in Palestine, Haiti, and Mexico; the struggles of immigrants, Native Americans, and other minority communities within the U.S.; and problems of police brutality and prisoner rights. The program's coverage of Israel and Palestine, including reports by former senior producer Nora Barrows-Friedman, has been criticized by Zionists.{{Cite interview |last=Barrows-Friedman |first=Nora |interviewer=Minister of Information Jr. |title=KPFA, a wolf in sheep's clothing: an interview with Nora Barrows Friedman of Flashpoints |url=https://sfbayview.com/2009/12/kpfa-a-wolf-in-sheeps-clothing-an-interview-with-nora-barrows-friedman-of-flashpoints/ |access-date=February 20, 2024 |archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20220528044920/https://sfbayview.com/2009/12/kpfa-a-wolf-in-sheeps-clothing-an-interview-with-nora-barrows-friedman-of-flashpoints/ |archive-date=May 28, 2022 |date=December 11, 2009}}
