Proposals have been put forward to develop the land to the east of Flaxby, north of the A59 road and west of the A1(M) motorway into a new town called Flaxby Park. The developers have announced their intention to build 2,500 - 3,000 homes on {{convert|440|acre}} of land that would also see a primary school, a medical centre, leisure facilities and numerous shops and bars.{{cite news|title=Plans for a new town unveiled|newspaper=Darlington and Stockton Times|date=19 August 2016|page=11|oclc=405979109}} The development would also include a bus park and ride system with the possibility of a new railway station on the York to Harrogate line. A railway station has already been proposed at Flaxby Moor (south of the A59) but in 2014, a feasibility study of new stations predicted a low demand of passenger numbers from a new station on the line.{{cite web|title=Flaxby Park|url=http://flaxbypark.com/about_flaxby_park.html|website=Flaxby Park|accessdate=10 September 2016}}{{cite web|title=New Railway Stations in North and West Yorkshire Feasibility Study|url=http://www.wymetro.com/uploadedFiles/WYMetro/Content/news/projects/projectdetails/New%20Stations%20Study%20Report%20v1.0%20FINAL%20Redacted.pdf|website=wymetro|publisher=Atkins|accessdate=10 September 2016|date=14 October 2014|archive-url=https://web.archive.org/web/20160304060333/http://www.wymetro.com/uploadedFiles/WYMetro/Content/news/projects/projectdetails/New%20Stations%20Study%20Report%20v1.0%20FINAL%20Redacted.pdf|archive-date=4 March 2016|url-status=dead}}
