Treaty of Fomena
{{main|Treaty of Fomena}}
The Treaty of Komena was an agreement between the Ashanti Empire and the British sometime in February of 1874.{{Cite web|title=Ghana - The Asante Wars|url=http://www.country-data.com/cgi-bin/query/r-5326.html|access-date=6 June 2024|website=www.country-data.com}} The treaty was signed in the town of Fomena. The treaty's goal was to bring peace between the two powers after weeks of fighting. It resulted in the Ashanti Empire paying 50,000 ounces of gold and giving up much of its power, playing a role in the state's collapse.{{cite web|url=https://www.eaumf.org/ejm-blog/2018/2/15/february-13-1874-the-ashanti-sue-for-peace-with-the-british-at-fomena|title=February 13, 1874: The Ashanti sue for peace with the British at Fomena — Edward A.
