Forbes compiles the finances of all 30 MLB teams to produce an annual ranking of the best franchises in terms of valuation. The valuations are composed of the monetary worth of the sport, market, stadium deals, and brand.{{cite web |title=New York Yankees Profile |url=https://www.forbes.com/teams/new-york-yankees/?sh=313d722b4e6e |work=Forbes |access-date=April 2, 2022}} These areas are supported by applying financial metrics such as debt and operating income to each one.{{cite web |title=Baseball's Most Valuable Teams 2023: Price Tags Are Up 12% Despite Regional TV Woes |url=https://www.forbes.com/sites/mikeozanian/2023/03/23/baseballs-most-valuable-teams-2023-price-tags-are-up-12-despite-regional-tv-woes/?sh=2160eff66501 |work=Forbes |access-date=April 22, 2022}}

The latest ranking reported that the New York Yankees is the most valuable MLB franchise.{{cite web |title=The Business of Baseball List |url=https://www.forbes.com/mlb-valuations/list/ |work=Forbes |access-date=April 2, 2022}} The fastest growing MLB franchise is the New York Yankees as well, with a 50% increase in valuation since the 2017 MLB season ($4 to $6 billion). The Yankees have held the crown for the most valuable MLB franchise since the inaugural ranking, which was released after the 1998 MLB season.{{cite web |title=No surprise where Yankees rank in Forbes' latest MLB valuations |url=https://sny.tv/articles/no-surprise-where-yankees-rank-in-forbes-latest-mlb-valuations |publisher=SNY (TV network) |access-date=April 2, 2022}}

Several media outlets have referenced in related news or conducts analytic journalism when the ranking comes out, such as USA Today and Yahoo!.{{cite web |title=Report: Yankees now worth an estimated $6 billion, with 12 of 30 MLB franchises topping $2 billion mark |url=https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/mlb/2022/03/24/forbes-mlb-franchise-values-yankees-cowboys/7152242001/ |publisher=USA Today |access-date=April 2, 2022}}{{cite web |title=Yankees reportedly valued at $6 billion, making them MLB's most valuable franchise |date=March 24, 2022 |url=https://sports.yahoo.com/yankees-reportedly-valued-at-6-billion-making-them-ml-bs-most-valuable-franchise-174217452.html |publisher=Yahoo! |access-date=April 2, 2022}} MLB has recognized the renditions of the ranking in financial documents, although not publicly.{{cite web |title=Baltimore Orioles Financial News Directory (Page 100) |url=http://mlb.mlb.com/documents/4/6/8/103262468/4_30_15_1x68ailc.pdf |publisher=Major League Baseball |access-date=April 2, 2022}}{{cite web |title=A's second baseman Jemile Weeks: Is he on the verge of stardom?
