Engines

New {{convert|200|cuin|L|1|abbr=on}} and {{convert|250|cuin|L|1|abbr=on}} inline six-cylinder engines replaced the smaller-capacity sixes offered in the XW. The {{convert|302|cuin|L|1|abbr=on}} and {{convert|351|cuin|L|1|abbr=on}} V8s were carried over from the previous range, though the larger capacity small block was dropped and only the Cleveland engine was available. A {{convert|250|hp|abbr=on}} version of the Cleveland engine, with a two-barrelled 2V (venturi) carburetor was the top option on the XY Falcon and ZD Fairmont range. The {{convert|300|hp|abbr=on}}, four-barrelled, 4V version of the engine was only offered on the XY GT and GTHO.{{cite web |title=Engines |url=http://www.aus-ford-uk.co.uk/html/engines.html |website=Australian Ford Register UK |access-date=2022-10-03}}AC Bushby, The Australian Ford Falcon Collection, 1989, pages 163–164
